The Favorites
The reigning champion Las Vegas Aces are the favorites to win the WNBA title by a slim margin (+120) over the New York Liberty. It will be a tough hill to climb for the Aces as no team has won back-to-back championships in the W since the Los Angeles Sparks in 2001 and 2002. But the Aces bolstered their roster in the offseason by adding two-time league MVP and two-time WNBA champion Candace Parker to a team with reigning two-time MVP A’ja Wilson. Their odds entering the preseason at FanDuel translate to about a 39% chance to win it all. The Liberty are second on the oddsboard, listed at +130 to win it all (about 37% implied odds), after trading for 2021 WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones, signing 2018 league MVP and two-time Finals MVP, Breanna Stewart, in free agency and adding Courtney Vandersloot to a team with Sabrina Ionescu.
Teams on the Outside
The Washington Mystics, who won it all in 2019, are the next closest team on the odds board (+1200 or a 6.5% chance) and the gap between them and the top two is massive, solidifying the fact that this season is viewed as a two-team race to start the season. With stars Elena Delle Donne and Natasha Cloud leading the team, they added Brittney Sykes and traded for Amanda Zahui B and added Kristi Toliver. Still, oddsmakers have them just slightly above the rest of the league in terms of their odds as of late April. The Phoenix Mercury, who thankfully have Brittney Griner back this season after she was detained in Russia for nearly a year, are listed at 25-1 (3.2% chance) to win the championship ahead of the season. https://www.actionnetwork.com/wnba/2023-wnba-title-odds-aces-liberty-in-their-own-league-entering-training-camp Keep sports betting fun by betting responsibly.
