WNBA Sixth Player of the Year, Brionna Jones, returns to Connecticut

Uncasville, CT (February 13, 2023)- The Connecticut Sun announced today that the 2022 Kia WNBA Sixth Player of the Year and two-time WNBA All-Star Brionna Jones has re-signed with the team on a one-year deal. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jones, who was selected eighth overall in the 2017 WNBA Draft, has spent all six seasons in the league in Connecticut. The Maryland native provided a dominant presence off the Sun bench during the 2022 season, averaging 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals. She ranked 20th in the WNBA in scoring, fourth in field goal percentage (56.9%) and second in offensive rebounds per game (2.6). Along with the 2022 Sixth Player of the Year honors, Jones was named WNBA All-Star for a second consecutive season. She helped lead Connecticut to a 25-11 regular season record and a 2022 WNBA Finals berth.

The 6-3 center enters the 2023 season climbing the Connecticut Sun record books, where she currently sits ninth in games played (166), 14th in scoring (1,445), 11th in rebounding and 14th in blocks (59). During the 2021 season, Jones was named the Kia WNBA Most Improved Player, making her one of only four players in Sun franchise history to achieve the honor. Jones is currently playing overseas with USK Prague alongside Connecticut Sun forward, Alyssa Thomas. She is averaging 19.6 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest, while holding a 22-5 overall record on the season.

Jones and the Sun tip off the 2023 season on Friday, May 19 at the Indiana Fever at 7:00 PM EST.
