NEW YORK, July 7, 2022 – Three-time event winner Allie Quigley of the Chicago Sky and current WNBA made threes leader Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces headline the list of six players who will show off the WNBA’s strength from beyond the arc in the MTN DEW® 3-Point Contest, which will take place on Saturday, July 9 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

The MTN DEW 3-Point Contest and WNBA Skills Challenge will air live on ESPN at 3 p.m. ET (2 p.m. CT) as part of AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022.

Quigley, who won the event at the 2021 AT&T All-Star Game in Las Vegas, the 2018 AT&T All-Star Game in Minneapolis and the 2017 AT&T All-Star Game in Seattle, and Plum, a 2022 All-Star whose 71 made three-point shots are the most in the league, will be joined in this year’s six-player field by 2022 All-Stars Ariel Atkins (Washington Mystics), Rhyne Howard (Atlanta Dream), Jewell Loyd (Seattle Storm), and Arike Ogunbowale (Dallas Wings). This marks the fifth MTN DEW 3-Point Contest for Quigley, who also participated in 2019. Loyd participated in the 2021 and 2018 events. Atkins, Howard, Ogunbowale and Plum are first-time participants.

“I’m so excited to be a part of the All-Star weekend in my hometown,” said Quigley. “After winning the event last year I really thought it would be my final time taking part. But the opportunity to compete one more time and to do so in Chicago was too good to pass up. I can’t wait to shoot in front of our home fans; it’s always a great time.”

In addition to being televised live on ESPN, the MTN DEW 3-Point Contest and the WNBA Skills Challenge will take place inside McCormick Place in front of a special group of participants from the Nike Tournament of Champions and Nike Girls Nationals. Both events are closed to the public but can be seen at a special viewing party hosted by DJ Shale outside McCormick Place within the grounds of WNBA Live presented by U.S. Bank.

Below are the roster of participants and the rules for the MTN DEW 3-Point Contest:

2022 MTN DEW 3-Point Contest

Six players will compete in the two-round, timed shooting competition.

COMPETITION FORMAT

  • Ball racks are positioned at five main shooting locations around the three-point arc.
  • Four of the racks contain four official WNBA game balls and one “money” ball.
  • The WNBA game balls are worth one point. The “money” ball is worth two points.
  • For each rack, the “money” ball can only be shot after the four WNBA game balls are shot.
  • The fifth rack will be a special “all money ball” rack.  Each competitor will decide the spot for this rack to be placed at one of the five main shooting locations.  Every ball on this rack is worth two points.
  • Two ball pedestals are positioned at deep shot locations called “THE DEW ZONE™”, one between racks 2 and 3 and the other between racks 3 and 4. (See the graphic below for reference.)
  • Each ball pedestal holds one special ball known as the “THE DEW ZONE ball.”
  • Shots made with the special green and white ball are worth 3 points.
  • Players must exhaust the ball racks and pedestals in competition order before moving on to the next shooting location.
  • Players may not start on or over the three-point line while shooting.  The basket will not count if the line is violated.  For the two additional deep shots, the player must begin their shooting motion with at least one foot in the “THE DEW ZONE” designated by a floor decal.

TIME LIMIT

  • Each competitor has 70 seconds (1:10) to shoot as many of the 27 balls as they can.

FIRST ROUND

  • Order of competition will be determined by the WNBA.
  • The three players with the highest scores advance to the Final Round.

FIRST ROUND TIEBREAKER

  • In the event of a tie to determine the Final Round participants, a 30-second tiebreaker will take place using the same competition format described above.  If necessary, this process will be repeated until the tie is broken.

FINAL ROUND

  • Three players will compete in the Final Round.
  • The competition order for the Final Round will be determined by the inverse order of First Round scores (e.g., the player with the lowest score in the First Round among the players who advanced shoots first in the Final Round).

FINAL ROUND TIEBREAKER

  • In the event of a tie to determine the Champion, a full 70-second (1:10) tiebreaker will take place.  If necessary, this process will be repeated until the tie is broken.
