As the weather warms up across the league, the players of the W have brought out various springtime trends while traveling to games over this week.

 Constantly traveling to games, they strategically pick outfits that bring comfort to their rigorous schedules. Standing at epic heights, these players, especially those over 6″, face additional challenges when flying or finding a perfectly proportioned outfit. While everyone shows up looking cool, calm and collected, there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes preparation behind every pre-game picture. 

The third edition of “The W in Designer: Flyest Fits of the Week” shows how players are fully embracing springtime styles as they warm-up to the 2022 season. Travel staples like sunglasses are essential accessories that stay on, even when the players enter their respective courts. No matter where each game takes place, the entire league is welcoming spring with lighter color palettes, more nudes and neutral garments, and graphic T-shirts with positive energy.

Skylar Diggins-Smith 

Skylar Diggins-Smith keeps things slick after arriving at her game with the Phoenix Mercury in classic airport attire. Skylar is wearing slim black shades with a long, shiny leather coat and leather boot in this picture. Her look is somewhere between an anonymous celebrity and a character from The Matrix. But, all eyes are drawn to her Beige Off the Shoulder Top from teammate Kristine Anigwe’s brand, KA Originals. The form-fitting top seems comfortable enough for travel while adding an aura of chicness to the busy lifestyles of this season’s players. 

Sue Bird

No matter what colors she chooses to combine, Sue Bird never misses with her pre-game fits. Studying her style reveals the Seattle Storm player’s ability to mix up-and-coming streetwear brands with designer pieces to create new combinations. Bird wears a dark green I Feel the Pain Short Sleeve Tee from FRANCHISE with a pink logo by designer Stu Maingot that matches her KAWS x Sacai x Nike Blazer Low “Reed” sneakers. Balanced by contrasting colors, her Gucci canvas jogging pants don’t create much distraction. 

Sydney Colson 

Players like the Las Vegas Aces’ Sydney Colson are fully embracing spring by wearing outfits with pastel color palettes. She wears a cozy white sweatshirt that balances out big hoop earrings and an oversized Neverfull Tote from Louis Vuitton. After much research online, her eye-catching blanket pants might have been a custom creation for the veteran player. Judging by Colson’s ultra-fresh Nike Air Force 1’s, perhaps the ten years that she’s played in the league have also caused her to develop a genuine appreciation for sneakers. 

Awak Kuier 

Standing at 6′ 4″ with long red braids, Awak Kuier brings a fabulous on-court presence to her games with the Dallas Wings. Her exceptional height isn’t noticeable in this outfit, which takes a certain amount of thoughtfulness to achieve. Kuier wears flared beige pants with a matching button-up shirt, and a layered white crop-top with an asymmetrical neckline. Accessorizing with square white nails and a simple gold chain, Kuier adds a sporty touch to her model-off-duty outfit with Nike Dunk High sneakers in black and white. 

Emily Engstler 

Emily Engstler takes a focused approach to her pre-game look with the Indiana Fever, but she still has all the essential elements needed for proper player swag. She wears a Supreme Bobsled Long Sleeve Top from the brand’s FW20 season with a subtle gold necklace, earrings, and rings. It’s a classic move to pair white shirts with blue jeans, but Engstler makes denim more interesting with ribbed details around the knees. Rocking a utilitarian backpack and Nike Blazer Mid ’77 Vintage sneakers also enhances the sweet simplicity of her outfit. 

Shakira Austin 

While Shakira has taken the league by storm with her on the court play, her same energy has transferred in her off-the-court swagger. Shakira shares her dream-chasing energy on the front of her T-shirt. She wears a slightly oversized Men’s Slogan Graphic Tee from SHEIN, with a motivational mantra and race car graphics. Keeping things comfortable with athletic leggings, Austin also rocks a pair of Nike Dunk Lows in a rare “Laser Orange” color. The Dunk Lows have been one of the most popular pre-game sneakers for both rookies and returning players this season. 

Joyner Holmes 

The Connecticut Sun pulled strong fits for this week, but Joyner Holmes stands out for her masterful approach to layering. Her outfit shows the perfect length of a white button-up shirt, peeking out from her taupe smiley face sweater, which looks like a crewneck from PrettyLittleThing. She also wears ripped jeans with a subtle crop to show off some layered socks and Nike Dunk Low sneakers in a black and white colorway. To contrast the light spring look, Holmes wears another player-certified favorite, a black Prada Re-Edition 2005 Re-Nylon bag.
