Gamecocks Rule In First-Ever Twitter Game

The Dallas Wings earned a road victory in the WNBA’s first-ever game broadcast on Twitter. Kaela Davis and Allisha Gray, the pair of 2017 draft picks from South Carolina, helped them pull out the win over the Mercury to get their season off on the right foot.

The game was viewed by 1.1 million people, a great start to the partnership. Stay tuned for future games streamed via the social media platform.

Kobe Talks WNBA At Sparks Season Opener

Retired NBA legend Kobe Bryant was at the Sparks season opener with his daughter, rooting on the team that he shared the Staples Center with for so many years when he was on the Lakers.

WNBA Partners With FanDuel

In a monumental announcement, FanDuel has now become the official one-day fantasy partner of the WNBA.

“Fans will be able to access the ‘Official One-Day Fantasy Game of the WNBA’ and compete against others for daily WNBA prizes, including courtside tickets to regular season games, unique WNBA experiences, WNBA merchandise and memorabilia,” the release stated.

Taurasi Eyes History

Diana Taurasi hit one 3-pointer in her season debut, placing her just five behind Katie Smith for the all-time lead. She has a chance to do it on Wednesday against the Fever (League Pass) or Friday against the Stars (Twitter).

LSU To Retire Sylvia Fowles’ Jersey

The LSU Hall of Fame Committee unanimously approved retiring the jersey of Minnesota’s Sylvia Fowles.

“Sylvia Fowles is a woman of great influence and compassion who has brought worldwide recognition to our university and to our state,” said LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva. “Her impact has been felt not only through her achievements as a basketball player, but also in her philanthropic work for young people. We are thrilled to honor her legacy by retiring her jersey in the Maravich Center.”

Next Twitter Game: Friday

The Mercury will take on the Stars in the WNBA’s second Twitter game of the season on Friday. Phoenix was also involved in the first on Sunday.
