2005 WNBA Finals MVP Yolanda Griffith led the Monarchs to their first ever WNBA title in four games over the Connecticut Sun. Griffith was the 1999 WNBA M.V.P., but had fallen short in years past. However her 18.5 points per game in the Finals as well as her leadership on the floor paced the hard-nosed Monarchs to the title. The Sun put up a valiant fight after a dramatic Game Two overtime win. It was the second straight loss in the Finals for the Sun.
